Note From Orca Aware

Being orca-centric, we rarely share news about other cetacean species or talk about the affect that captivity has on them. But something Dr. Naomi Rose said at a conference we attended in March has stuck with us: just because bottlenose dolphins adapt to captivity better [than orca], it doesn't mean they adapt well.

There are 34 dolphinaria in Europe, with 307 cetaceans on display in 15 countries. While the UK is currently one of 13 EU member states not currently displaying cetaceans in captivity, British citizens do make up a large proportion of tourists visiting dolphinaria around the world each year.

Many of these trips are facilitated by tour operators, including TUI Travel PLC (Thomson & First Choice Holidays). We want to show TUI Travel PLC in the UK that we do care about the issue of cetacean captivity and that no whale, dolphin or porpoise belongs in a water circus performing tricks for human entertainment.

Please help us by signing and sharing this petition, which will be handed in to TUI UK with the support of Keith Taylor MEP:

Such trips will be very popular, as watching the dolphins is a great pleasure for both children and adults.
